Pavilion named for Queen’s stalwart
The JB McAlpine pavilion was officially opened last Friday at Lesser Hampden, prior to Saturday’s match with Arbroath.
It is named in honour of the legendary James B McAlpine, who played 500 games for Queen’s between 1919 and 1933 and scored 192 goals. The oldest football club in Scotland — and the oldest amateur club in the world — Queen’s beat Arbroath 6-1 at Hampden in the winter of 1923, when the same JB McAlpine scored a hat-trick — taking QP forward to become Division Two champions.
