Kirkintilloch Canal Festival runs from August 19-25 and includes a new competition which challenges shopkeepers to dress up their windows in a ‘nautical but nice’ way in the run-up to the event.
The winner will be decided by the local community via an online vote and fliers available at retailers.

Hide AdCouncil leader Rhondda Geekie said: “Asking traders to take part in a window-dressing competition to be judged by the local community is something new for this year.
“We know that last year the event brought in almost £400,000 to the local economy thanks to the 28,500 people who descended on the town centre over the weekend.
“We want local business to benefit as much as possible from that additional footfall, and get into the spirit of the festival with interesting and fun window displays.”
