What a difference Lanark Lanimer drink ban made
For the first time in its history, drinking in the streets on Lanimer Day was illegal.
Pubs were able to “annexe” part of the pavement outside their premises to cope with the overflow of their customers, but the days of young people – and not so young – lurching through the crowds drinking from their bottles were over.
It certainly cut down the amount of broken glass in the streets, and families with young children seem happier with the restriction of the by-law banning the drinking in public. Good move?
