KIDS ARE NOT TO BLAME
Dear Ed, — I am writing with regard to the letter last week with reference to ''Address the Danger''.
Yes I can see the sender's concerns, but I also feel that the school children are always getting the blame, made worse by all the bad press they get, whether it's in the papers, or just idle chat.

Hide AdThere is always a small minority of children who create a bad name for all schools, but it's just a minority.
I feel that the children are all being tarred by the same brush.
This accident took place on Hyndford Road, not Braxfield Road.
The child was walking single file up the pavement on Hyndford Road.

This accident could equally have happened at the weekend with no pupils present.
The school has advised all children not to use Hyndford Road due to it being dangerous, so of course this does cause more school children to use Braxfield Road.
But remember this is a small market town with very narrow roads and pavements, which causes not only a problem for drivers and pedestrians but also for our school children.

Hide AdImagine being one of 1100 children coming out of school all at the same time walking on pavements probably only wide enough for one person to safely use.
They also have a hard task in staying safe. We have a good high school here in Lanark and should be proud of it and its pupils.
I think we should all have a good think, and see it from everyone's perspective and not just our own.
We live in an old market town and it has roads and pavements that reflect that.

Hide AdAfter all the headlines about our road system and how congested the town is, I'm just sorry the opportunity was not taken when building the new school, to move it out of town, allowing everyone a bit more room, especially the school pupils. — Yours etc.,
NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED.
