A tribute to John Gennard
Anne Gennard, who lived with Manchester-born John in South Avenue for 31 years, described the thoughtful note – from a Carluke Railway Station clerk who regularly chatted to John most days between 2002 and 2009 – as “nice and very moving”.
It read: “I was very saddened to hear of John’s death. He was a very easy man to talk to before he got the train every day; a true gentleman who lit up many a morning for me.

“He only touched my life for a few minutes a day, but left a lasting impression.”
Anne said this was just one of several letters she’d received paying tribute to John, whose funeral at Kirkton Church was attended by 300 people.
