Southside groups share windfall from housebuilder’s appeal
The team at McCarthy and Stone increased the original fund from £1,000 to £1,275 on the strength of the submissions made and they have awarded the money as follows – £300 to Give a Dog a Bone - helping elderly people tackle loneliness through finding a suitable rescue pet; £675 to the Pollokshields Development Agency who are organising a local street party on 21st September; and £300 to Food Train – a local group providing a free food grocery delivery service to elderly local residents.
Alexandra Krause, representing Pollokshields Development Agency said: “Our donation of £675 will cover the funding towards hiring 15 standard market stalls for local organisations and charities at the street party, in order to provide safe, weather-proof and hassle-free stalls for participating community groups and charities.”

“The boxes often become damaged due to frequent use over time, but they are great because it means that we do not have to use plastic bags.”
Louise Russell from local charity Give a Dog a Bone said: “We are extremely grateful to McCarthy & Stone for awarding us £300 towards our Shawlands Community Space, where we offer retired people a safe place to make new friends, learn new skills and mix with dogs. Our Shawlands hub has been opened for over a year now and we have become an integral part of the community, offering free activities to the over 60s - tackling loneliness and social isolation through animal companionship.”
