New exams won’t test South Lanarkshire Council
However, South Lanarkshire Council defended its decision to forge ahead and said that its teachers – and pupils – are ready for the new challenge.
Jim Gilhooly, executive director of education resources, said: “South Lanarkshire Council has been fully committed to the delivery of the new Higher commencing in August.

Hide Ad“Since January, we have been listening to various partners involved in the implementation of the new Higher, including the Government, the Scottish Qualification Authority and trade unions. Each school has been encouraged to undertake extensive professional dialogue, involving teachers, departments, senior managers in schools and the local authority in order to decide whether the new Higher can be successfully delivered in each subject.”
