Fond memories of Torrance teacher
The move came after local councillor Gary Pews was asked by council officials for suggestions for the name of the street at the new Dawn Homes estate on Campsie Road.
Councillor Pews (Lib Dem, Bishopbriggs North and Campsie) thought it would be nice to name the street after someone who had made a significant contribution to the life of the village.

Just before the schools closed in March Councillor Pews met with Alasdair’s brother Simon, from Lennoxtown and present day pupils to unveil the new sign.
In a touching quirk of fate, Emily McMann, the representative from Dawn Homes who attended the unveiling, revealed Mr McGillivray had been her teacher when she was in P6 at the school.
Councillor Pews said: “It is obvious that Alasdair McGillivray was a much-loved and admired teacher, whose passion for his job influenced generations of children. I am delighted to have played a role in having this street named in his honour.
