SWRI celebrates 60th year
On Wednesday the Cumbernauld branch of the Scottish Women’s Rural Institute celebrated its historic 60th anniversary at Castlecary House Hotel.
To mark the occasion some of the members were presented with special loyalty badges, while president Mrs Ann Hamilton and youngest committee member Mrs Anne Goldie cut the anniversary cake.

The branch has much to celebrate, with six decades of community-based activity, competitions and social interaction to its credit – from the immediate post-war years right through to the early 21st century.
At a time when some other longstanding local institutions are finding it difficult to maintain memberships amid changing times Cumbernauld SWRI is still a force to be reckoned with in the national federation of groups across Scotland.
The celebration was a chance to enjoy meeting friends from Cumbernauld and other branches, besides exchanging anecdotes about the people and the events that have shaped the Institute down through the years.
